Kristiina Karjanlahti

Chief Economist at Finnfund

Kristiina Karjanlahti has had a diverse work experience in the field of economics and policy. Kristiina currently holds the position of Chief Economist at Finnfund, a role they started in July 2023. Prior to this, they also served as Chief Economist at Finnfund starting in February 2022.

Before joining Finnfund, Kristiina worked at the Bank of Finland (Suomen Pankki - Finlands Bank) as an Advisor from February 2020 to March 2022. Their responsibilities included leading policy formulation and coordination of Nordic and Baltic Countries views for various economic, climate, development, finance, and other IMF policy issues.

Kristiina also served as a Senior Advisor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from January 2019 to February 2020, where they analyzed current economic policy issues, global economic risks, IMF programs, and prepared statements and speaking notes for the IMF Executive Board.

Their earlier experience includes working as a Senior Economist at the Bank of Finland from November 2011 to January 2019. In this role, they formed positions on finance, economic policy, and governance issues for the IMF board, analyzed global economic policy and international finance architecture, and was a member of the International Relations Committee of the European Central Bank (ECB).

Prior to their role at the Bank of Finland, they worked as an Economist at the World Bank from October 2007 to November 2011, where they conducted macroeconomic monitoring, sector and policy analysis, and provided technical support in governance reform to the governments of Liberia and The Gambia.

Kristiina also has experience working as an Economist at Ramboll-Finnconsult Oy, where they conducted economic and financial analysis, prepared tenders for development projects, and conducted market follow-up. Additionally, they worked as an Intern at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, where they coordinated concessionally financed investment projects and conducted research for their master's dissertation on concessional credit projects.

Overall, Kristiina Karjanlahti has a strong background in economics, policy formulation, analysis, and coordination, with extensive experience at both national and international organizations.

Kristiina Karjanlahti completed their Master of Science degree in Economics from Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku in the years spanning from 2001 to 2007. Following this, they pursued a PhD in Economics from Aalto University from 2010 to 2020.
