Filamatic is seeking a Senior Manager of Engineering with outstanding leadership, managerial and machine design skills. Our company designs and manufactures liquid filling machinery systems for the biotech, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and cannabis industries. Our liquid packaging lines typically include bottle unscramblers, liquid fillers, pluggers, cappers, labelers, coders, and inspection systems. Our machines are capable of dispensing from microliters to gallons at speeds up to 250 containers per minute.

The Senior Manager of Engineering, reporting to the Director of Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, will directly supervise managers who each lead a team of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical/Software Engineers, R&D Engineers, Innovation Engineers, and Technical Writers. The Senior Manager of Engineering will be responsible for the design of standard machines, customized machines, retrofit / upgraded machines, and prototype machines (R&D).  The Senior Manager of Engineering will also be responsible for incorporating state of the art technology (innovation) into our machinery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize team roles, evaluate employee performance and partner with Human Resources to address performance issues.
  • Conduct regular one on one meetings and support employee continued professional development.
  • Assist with new employee onboarding and training programs and maintain departmental accountability to company policies, procedures, and corporate values.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chian, as well as the Finance and Sales teams to ensure that our products offer a superior value proposition to our customers taking into consideration features, cost, and performance.
  • Provide the Director of Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain with accurate labor cost and availability for the preparation of customer proposals.
  • Ensure that designs are released on schedule, error free, and meet performance and budget expectations.
  • Standardize and value-engineer our product line to minimize cost, inventory investment, and delivery time.
  • Utilize state of the art machine design technology.
  • Ensure that R&D projects meet performance expectations and are completed on time and within budget.
  • Fully utilize the Company’s information technology (IT) systems including CAD (Solidworks and Autocad), Microsoft Projects (project management software) and ERP software to improve the operating efficiency of the department.
  • Provide comprehensive and user-friendly machine instruction manuals.
  • Partner with manufacturing and final assembly departments to debug machines.
  • Work with technical service department to help resolve customer operational issues.
  • Supervise the test lab to obtain data needed to evaluate customers applications required to design machines.
  • Evaluate, investigate, and recommend new technology for incorporations into our product line.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and critique designs created by staff members.
  • Analyze processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies and take corrective action.
  • Develop and implement process improvements, monitor, and evaluate the results.
  • Validate concepts by building prototypes and testing before finalizing the design.
  • Meet performance metrics.
  • Hold subordinates responsible for completing designs on time, within budget, that meet customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing the design of complex, automated, multifunctional packaging machinery, assembly machinery, industrial machinery, or capital equipment which incorporate robotics and other state of the art automation.
  • Experience designing machines within budget, on time, and that meet or exceed customer specifications on a timely basis, and minimize the need for rework.
  • Experience working with CAD (Solidworks, Autocad) and relevant machine design technology.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) software.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to hire, motivate and mentor subordinates to meet department and corporate goals.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of machine shop and machine assembly operations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Drafting Standards and Tolerancing.
  • Experience with project management principles and software.
