Shani Charles currently serves as the Director of Teaching and Learning for grades 5-9 at The Fessenden School, a position held since July 2021. Prior to this role, Shani Charles spent seven years at Manhattan Country School in various capacities, including 6th Grade Teacher, where a curriculum encompassing early American History, the Haitian Revolution, and the Civil Rights Movement was developed. Additional responsibilities included chairing the Staff Council and mentoring student teachers. Previous experience includes teaching roles at Brooklyn Friends School and Bank Street College of Education, as well as educational positions at the Children's Museum of Manhattan and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Shani Charles holds a Master's degree in Childhood General Education from Bank Street College and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Stony Brook University.
