Marc Bertola

Senior Software Programmer, Space Team at Felix & Paul Studios

Marc Bertola has over 18 years of experience in software engineering. In 2003, they began their career as a Senior Software Engineer at Gennum Corporation, where they developed and validated C++ firmware for the VXP line of baseband video processing chips. In 2008, they moved to Sigma Designs Technology Canada Inc. / Gennum Corporation, where they used Scrum and test-driven-development to lead a four-person team developing a toolchain to generate firmware headers, hardware and diagnostics code from register descriptions. Marc also produced a C++ framework to standardize the modelling of new video algorithms. In 2010, they joined Qualcomm as a Senior Member of Technical Staff, where they were responsible for scoping the firmware, host driver and testing effort required to achieve Wi-Fi Alliance Indoor Positioning (802. 11mc) certification. Marc integrated and maintained Wi-Fi Ranging (Positioning) firmware in C, and provided a testing suite for it. In 2015, they moved to Prolucid as a Senior Embedded Developer, where they developed AXI and AXI-S-compatible Verilog FPGA modules to accelerate machine vision processing and actuator control using Vivado and Petalinux (Xilinx FPGAs). In 2018, they joined Suometry as Lead Developer, where they were responsible for software development, integration of a wide range of 3rd party libraries and profiling/performance optimization in both PC and embedded environments. Marc also developed a high-performance, stable architecture in C++ and CUDA to produce real-time 360-degree stereoscopic (3D) video, depth map, and reprojection feeds with minimal latency using Suometry's patented image processing algorithms. In 2022, they joined Felix & Paul Studios as Senior Software Programmer, Space Team.

Marc Bertola obtained a B. Eng. in Computer Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal between 1996 and 2000. Marc then earned an M. Sc. A. in Microelectronics from Polytechnique Montréal between 2000 and 2003.
