Patricia Bomba

Former Senior Medical Director, Geriatrics & Palliative Care at Excellus BCBS

Patricia Bomba has extensive experience in the medical field, particularly in the areas of geriatrics and palliative care. Patricia began their career at Excellus BCBS in 2000, where they held various roles including Former Senior Medical Director of Geriatrics & Palliative Care and VP & Medical Director of Geriatrics. In these positions, they designed and oversaw the implementation of community projects focused on end-of-life and palliative care. Patricia also played a key role in developing advance care planning programs and guidelines for pain management and long-term feeding tube placement.

In addition to their work at Excellus BCBS, Bomba founded the NY MOLST & eMOLST program in 2001, which aimed to improve end-of-life care by facilitating communication between healthcare providers and patients. Patricia served as the Chair of the MOLST Statewide Implementation Team, emphasizing the importance of consistent and evidence-based end-of-life care across the state. Patricia also chaired the National Healthcare Decisions Day New York State Coalition.

Bomba was the Program Director for eMOLST, a software application that streamlined the process for creating legal medical orders related to end-of-life care. This application provided automated user feedback for quality review and training tools for users. Alongside their professional work, Bomba served on the board of directors for St. Ann's Community and Episcopal Seniorlife Communities, contributing to the governance and strategic direction of these organizations.

Before their career at Excellus BCBS, Bomba partnered with Dr. Linda Rice in a private practice specializing in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. This partnership spanned from 1983 to 2000. Overall, Bomba's career demonstrates their dedication to improving end-of-life care and advocating for compassionate treatment for geriatric patients.

Patricia Bomba completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Pre-Med from Immaculata University in the years 1968 to 1972. Patricia then pursued further education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the field of Medicine from 1972 to 1976. During the years 1976 to 1979, Bomba attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry for an Internal Medicine Residency program. Additionally, Bomba enrolled in the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001.
