Irene Acerbi has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and industries. In 2003, she served as a Doctoral Student at Politecnico di Milano, where she pioneered an international student exchange program and conducted studies on respiratory mechanics using atomic force microscopy (AFM). From 2010 to 2015, she worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), focusing on research projects. Following that, she joined the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 2010, initially as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where she designed protocols and analyzed data for biophysical analysis of human breast tissue. Irene also managed clinical research coordination and oversaw IRB protocols. Irene then progressed to the role of Clinical Research Coordinator, where she managed studies with human tissues from the breast, pancreas, and brain. In 2016, she became a Program Manager at UCSF for the Athena Breast Health Network & WISDOM Study, leading operations and overseeing collaboration between institutions. Additionally, she served as a Program Manager for The WISDOM Study, responsible for managing site operations at UCSF and implementing IT integrations. In 2015, she worked as a Contractor for Language Scientific. Most recently, she joined Solaris Biotech in 2021 as the Managing Director, successfully reopening operations after the pandemic hiatus and achieving over $8 million in sales. Currently, Irene Acerbi has joined Exai Bio, in March 2023 as a Senior Technical Study Manager and Lead in Academic Collaborations.

In 1995, Irene completed their high school education at Liceo Scientifico, where she studied Sperimentazione Linguistica (studying for five years grammar and literature in French, English, Latin, and Italian). During this time, she also had the opportunity to study abroad at Skyline High School in Longmont, Colorado, USA, during the 1998-1999 academic year.
Irene then went on to pursue higher education at Politecnico di Milano. Irene obtained her Bachelor's degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from 2000 to 2003. Irene continued studying at the same institution and received her Master's degree in the same field from 2003 to 2005.
In 2005, Irene enrolled in the Politecnico di Milano's doctoral program and pursued a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, which she successfully completed in 2010.
Irene further expanded her knowledge by conducting pre-doctoral studies in Biopathology in Medicine at the Universitat de Barcelona from 2005 to 2007.
To enhance her project management skills, Irene attended the University of California, Berkeley in 2015. There, she completed a short course on Project Management, earning a certification for Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
