Martin Sonogan has a diverse work experience in the mining industry. Martin started their career as a Combatant in the Australian Army from 2009 to 2011. After that, they worked as a Mine Geotechnical Engineer at Mining One, completing various projects in Australia and internationally from April 2011 to September 2011. Martin then joined CST Mining as a Mining Engineer from September 2011 to January 2014, where they primarily focused on mine production engineering and geotechnical responsibilities.
Following this, Sonogan worked at Fortescue Metals Group as a Mine Planning Engineer from January 2014 to May 2015, contributing to the production of iron ore. Martin also gained experience in planning and project management roles at the Australian Government from June 2015 to September 2016.
Sonogan then joined Atlas Iron Limited, where they served as a Senior Mine Engineer and an Alternate Quarry Manager from October 2016 to October 2017. Afterwards, they worked as a Mine Planning Specialist at Whittle Consulting from October 2017 to April 2019. Martin then moved to Harmony Gold as a Principal Mining Engineer from April 2019 to December 2019.
Currently, Sonogan is employed at Evolution Mining. Martin started as a Group Principal Mining Engineer - Transformation & Effectiveness in January 2020 and is currently serving as a Principal Business Analyst - Group Operations since February 2023.
Martin Sonogan has a diverse educational background. Martin earned a Master of Economics with a specialization in Minerals & Energy from Curtin University in 2022. Prior to that, they pursued a Graduate Certificate of Applied Finance at Macquarie University from 2015 to 2016. Before that, they completed a Master of Mining in Geomechanics/Mine Management at UNSW from 2013 to 2014. Martin also holds a Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering from Federation University Australia, which they obtained in 2011. In addition, they earned a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Federation University Australia from 2006 to 2008 and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the same institution from 2002 to 2005. Martin also possesses several certifications, such as RG146 (ASIC Regulatory Guidelines) from Kaplan University in 2016 and a TAE40110 - Cert IV in Training and Assessment obtained in 2015. Martin also obtained an Unrestricted Quarry Manager's Ticket from the Department of Mines and Petroleum, Western Australia in 2015.
