Barbara Albiger is a highly experienced scientific expert with a focus on microbiology and infectious diseases. Currently serving as Principal Expert Scientific Quality at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since 2011, Barbara has played a pivotal role in implementing scientific strategies, promoting good practices, and enhancing the quality of scientific outputs. Previous roles at ECDC include leading the Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections (ARHAI) programme and overseeing the integration of molecular typing into EU surveillance. Prior to ECDC, Barbara held academic positions at Lund University and Karolinska Institutet, where extensive research on immune responses and infection models was conducted. Barbara holds a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Université de Strasbourg and a Master of Science in Microbiology from the same institution.
