Yi Qiang Ji Zhang has a strong background in engineering and space-related projects. They worked as a System Engineer for GMV and EUMETSAT, providing on-site support and integration of ground segment systems. At CranSEDS, they served as the Mission and Propulsion Lead and Satellite System Engineer, contributing to the optimization and testing of propulsion systems, as well as satellite design and verification activities. They also participated in training courses at the European Space Agency (ESA) and worked on various projects within the UPC Space Program, including designing and testing reaction wheels, developing electronics for CubeSats, and coordinating the Electronics team. Yi Qiang Ji Zhang earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical/Space Engineering from Cranfield University from 2022 to 2023. Prior to this, from 2021 to 2023, Yi Qiang Ji Zhang pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Before that, from 2017 to 2021, Yi Qiang Ji Zhang completed a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Technologies Engineering, specializing in Ingeniería aeroespacial, aeronáutica y astronáutica at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

In terms of additional certifications, Yi Qiang Ji Zhang received certification from the European Astrobiology Institute's EAI ASTROBIOLOGY ACADEMY in June 2023. In January 2023, Yi Qiang Ji Zhang obtained a Verified Certificate for Space Mission Design and Operations from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne.
