John McDermott has a diverse work experience that spans multiple industries. John began their career in 2013 as a Student Instructor at the STEM Summer Energy Academy, where they taught college students about power generation and electrical circuitry construction. In 2012, they worked as a Physics Laboratory Technician II at Cabrillo College, where they designed, built, and repaired laboratory equipment.
From 2013 to 2014, McDermott worked at the Naval Postgraduate School, specializing in Near-Space Systems Design. Here, they programmed data collection sensors using Python and integrated them into a controlled system for high-altitude weather balloons.
In 2014, McDermott took on multiple roles at different companies. At Clawson Device Group, they served as a Product Development Manager and Engineering Contractor, leading cross-functional technical teams in the development and design of mechanical components and equipment. At Epix Orthopaedics, Inc., they worked as a Document Control Specialist and Engineering Contractor, creating and modifying standard operating procedures. John also worked as a Freelance Product Developer and Design Engineer at McDermott Engineering, where they completed product design and development, including the creation of part drawings and engineering documentation.
In 2021, McDermott joined Eugenus, Inc. as an AI/Robotics Engineer III. Prior to this role, they worked as an AI Robotics Engineer II at the same company, focusing on the development of embedded systems and robotics using STM32, ARM, C++, Python, and Neural Networks. Before that, they worked as a Lab Process Support Associate Engineer, where they provided support for the installation and maintenance of ALD/CVD deposition equipment.
Throughout their career, McDermott has gained skills in programming, robotics, design, documentation creation, and equipment maintenance and repair.
John McDermott attended Cabrillo College from 2011 to 2014, where they obtained an Associate of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering. During their time at Cabrillo College, they also pursued an additional degree in Advanced Welding Skills, which they completed in 2014.
