Thoko Kaime is a prominent academic and legal expert currently serving as the Professor and Chair of African Legal Studies at the University of Bayreuth since December 2019 and as a Trustee for Essex Wildlife Trust since August 2020. Previously, Kaime held key positions at the University of Essex, including Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Research Education and Senior Lecturer in Law and Socio-Legal Studies from September 2015 to August 2020. Prior roles include Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS, Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research at the University of Leicester, and Lecturer in Law at the University of Surrey, where Kaime also led the Environmental Regulatory Research Group. From January 2006 to December 2009, Kaime was the Head of Africa Division at Exclusive Analysis, and earlier experience includes working as an Associate at Nyirenda and Msisha Law Offices. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Law from SOAS University of London and an LLM in Law from the University of Pretoria. Research interests encompass international law, socio-legal methodology, and human rights critiques of international law.
