Bob Urban is a 1980 graduate of Akron University with a BA in Mass Media Communications with a minor in Advertising. In September of 1982, Bob was hired as a Production Assistant at a local start-up cable company franchise, Complexicable Inc., serving the cities of Brook Park, Berea, and eventually Brecksville.
On that first day, he crewed the first-ever LIVE cablecast of a city council meeting in Ohio for the City of Brook Park. Eventually, over a six-year span, he provided LIVE city council coverage in Berea and Brecksville as well. Through company growth, Bob became Program Director responsible for all video and advertising production in the various franchise cities Complexicable represented. This also included the building and outfitting of production studios and council chambers. Besides the above he co-produced, directed, and edited “Ohio Championship Wrestling” a regional WWF-style one-hour wrestling program, “Off the Wall” a local /regional music/comedy program, Baldwin-Wallace Football and Basketball games, along with various political, entertainment, high school, and religious programs. In 1987, the City of Brook Park recognized him with “Bob Urban Day” for meritorious service to the city and community.
In 1988 Bob “transitioned” over to CABLEVISION Systems as Production Manager due to industry consolidation. He was responsible for overseeing the installation and servicing of nine “Commercial Insertion Hubs” for Cablevision’s Northeast Ohio footprint, as well as adjoining cable systems. This commercial insertion and advertising production growth was a natural continuation from what Bob and a fellow colleague began as a potential revenue stream early on at Complexicable.
With the sale of Cablevision Systems in 2000 to Adelphia cable, Bob again “transitioned” over to Cyrid Media Inc. with its founder Mark Dolan. He was responsible for the production and organization of the various commercials and videos produced for broadcast, cablecast, and in-house hotel systems. For the last 17 years, he has directed, shot, and edited over 400 half-hour episodes of Fred Martin Superstore’s “Car Connection”.
