Mr. Smith joined E2G in September 2021. He has 41 years of instrument experience: 1 consulting with E2G, 15 in refining, 15 in petrochemicals, and 10 in the pipeline. The last 15 years in refining were focused on compliance with ANSI/ISA/IEC 61511, the safety instrumented system process industry standard and instrument mechanical integrity. The safety life cycle also resulted in significant involvement and experience with process hazard analysis. In addition, he has acquired valuable experience in refinery operations including crude units, fluid catalytic cracking, hydro-processing, continuous catalyst regeneration, hydrofluoric alkylation, sulfur recovery, water treatment, product loading (both trucks and ships/barges), fired equipment, and tank farms.
Prior to that, Mr. Smith provided owner/operator instrument and electrical oversight for large petrochemical projects including olefins, paraxylene, tri-mellitic anhydride (TMA), and linear alpha olefins. He was responsible for all project phases, from concept to front-end engineering, through detailed engineering and construction and commissioning. His pipeline experience gives him a strong background in pipeline instrumentation and controls, telemetry, and custody transfer measurement.
Mr. Smith has been a registered professional engineer in Texas since 1987. In addition, he is a member of ISA and an ANSI/ISA/IEC 61511 expert since 2016.
