Alex Cooper has a diverse work experience in the field of journalism. They started their career as an intern at The Sarajevo Open Centre in 2013. They then worked as a MA Researcher at Central European University, where they conducted ethnographic fieldwork on LGBTQ activism in Serbia. Alex also served as the co-Editor in Chief of The Activist, a human rights graduate journal.
In 2016, Alex worked as a Copywriter at Catalyst Balkans, writing weekly blog posts and assisting in report writing. They also held the role of Content Strategist at UNLEASH, overseeing editorial production for UNLEASH News and writing marketing content.
In 2018, Alex freelanced for various media outlets, covering human rights, international politics, and the Future of Work. They also worked as an Engagement Editor and a Daily News Reporter at The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, overseeing social media, publishing newsletters, and writing news briefs.
From 2020 to 2021, Alex worked as a Staff Writer at Community Journals, covering various topics for the Greenville Journal and the Upstate Business Journal.
In 2021, Alex joined Pride Media Inc., first as an Editor At Large and later as a Digital Director, before moving to their current role as the Digital Director of The Advocate at Equal Pride in 2022. In this role, they manage a remote newsroom, assign articles, and oversee contributors and freelancers.
Throughout their career, Alex's work has been published in various outlets such as NBC News, the Washington Blade, Slate, and Balkan Insight. They have also presented their research at conferences and symposiums.
