Carmen Carnero began their career in 1991 as an Assistant to the General Manager of the Italian Branch at Banesto. Carmen then worked as a Financial Analyst at Banesto from 1992 to 1993. In 1994, they joined Bank of America as an Associate Investment Banking Officer.
In 1995, Carmen Carnero joined Visa as a Director of International Commercial Cards Products, where they led various projects in product development and management in different countries.
From 1998 to 2011, Carmen Carnero worked at SERMEPA, initially responsible for Business Development, Marketing, and Risk Management. Carmen eventually became the Deputy General Manager and managed a team of 100 people. In 2011, SERMEPA merged with Redy to form Redsys, the main card processor in Spain.
Following their tenure at SERMEPA, Carmen Carnero joined ServiRed as Deputy Managing Director. ServiRed was one of the major domestic card payment schemes in Spain.
Since 2018, Carmen Carnero has been working at Sistema de Tarjetas y Medios de Pago (STMP), where they held the role of Deputy General Manager - Technology, Operations, and Fraud. Carmen later worked on a secondment contract for EPI Company as the Head of Scheme Management.
As of 2023, Carmen Carnero holds the position of Chief Scheme Officer at EPI Company.
Carmen Carnero attended Harvard Business School in 2010, where they completed a General Management Program. Prior to that, they pursued an MBA at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business from 1993 to 1995.
