Thom McDermott

Operations Optimization Specialist at Energy Network

Thom McDermott has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Thom started their career as an Investment Operations Clerk at Trust Company of the West in 1987. Thom then moved on to BankAmerica Corporation, where they worked as an Investment Operations Specialist, responsible for managing client accounts affected by corporate actions and class action lawsuits. In 1993, they joined Barnett Banks, Inc. as an Investment Officer, focusing on developing investment policies for institutional clients and managing their portfolios.

Thom's next role was at Quantra Corporation as a Business Analyst - Pre-sales. Thom worked at Quantra for three years before joining DataScan Technologies as a Senior Business Analyst. At DataScan Technologies, they coordinated various teams and was responsible for improving the company's release delivery rate and developing a tracking system for development and support issues.

In 1999, Thom joined Atlanta Financial Consultants, Inc. as a Wealth Management Advisor. Thom built and managed a successful financial advisory practice that consistently outperformed the markets using various investment instruments. Thom worked at the company until 2016 when the practice was sold.

From 2012 to 2014, Thom worked at Allstate Financial as a Personal Financial Representative. Thom partnered with agency owners to grow the financial services business within their agencies, implemented marketing strategies, and strengthened client relationships.

In 2014, Thom became a Business Owner at Pinnacle Equipment Leasing, Inc. Thom was responsible for developing the corporate strategy, raising capital, negotiating terms with financial institutions, and implementing operational and financial systems.

Most recently, Thom joined Energy Network as an Operations Optimization Specialist in 2020.

Thom McDermott obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, which they completed between 1978 and 1983. Later on, between 1991 and 1993, McDermott pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on International Finance at California State University, Long Beach. In addition, from 1990 to 1993, they attended the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, where they obtained a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation specializing in Investment Analysis and Research. Finally, McDermott pursued further education in Financial Planning and earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, which they completed from 2002 to 2013.
