Silvia Gravina has extensive work experience in the field of molecular biology and product strategy. Silvia currently holds the position of Director of Product Applications & Strategy at Encodia, Inc. Prior to this role, Silvia served as Director of Molecular Biology & Product Strategy at the same company. Before joining Encodia, they worked at Cradle Genomics as the Director of Next Generation Sequencing, Development and as a Principal Sr. Scientist, Development. Silvia also has experience at Illumina, where they held the positions of Sr. Scientist, Advanced Platform Technology Development and Scientist II, Oncology Technology Development. Silvia has also worked at Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Faculty Associate and Postdoctoral Research Associate, specializing in NGS-Omics and single-cell DNA methylation technology development. Additionally, Silvia has worked at SENS Research Foundation as a Scientist, and at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as a Lecturer in the field of single-cell analyses. Silvia began their research career at Ordway Research Institute and Bologna University as a Research Assistant, studying molecular changes in aging skin fibroblasts. Silvia also worked at the University of Bologna as a Research Assistant and Graduate Fellow on a project focused on genetic determinants of human longevity.
Silvia Gravina earned a PhD in Oncology and Experimental Pathology with a focus on the genetics of longevity from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, completing their studies from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, they obtained an MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the same institution from 1999 to 2004, with a research interest in longevity, genetics, molecular and cellular biology. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Marketing foundations from The Wharton School in February 2019.
