Semhal Tekeste has a diverse work experience in the field of digital operations and marketing. Starting in 2010, they worked as a Marketing Intern at BLEN Inc, where they researched and developed proposals and marketed the business through social media. In 2009, they served as an Online Marketer at Visual Jazz Media, where they created and executed online marketing strategies and managed an integrated online community outreach. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Customer Relations Manager and Digital Quality Assurance Analyst at The Great Courses by The Teaching Company, where they managed customer relationships, designed a website training manual, and executed functional and regression testing for website projects. In 2013, they joined the American Red Cross as a Web Operations associate, tracking and analyzing web site usage data and supporting email marketing and fundraising efforts. Semhal then worked as a Social Media Specialist at MorganFranklin Consulting, where they created and managed social media content strategy and trained the marketing team on best practices. In 2013, they joined Delucchi Plus as a Digital Marketing Specialist, managing marketing channels and providing reporting and recommendations to clients. From 2014 to 2015, they worked at Friends of the Earth U.S. as a Sr. Digital Communications Strategist, designing analytics-driven non-profit digital communications strategies and increasing audience engagement through thought leadership content and social media advertising. In 2016, they joined General Assembly as a Digital Marketing Mentor & Instructor, mentoring students in a Digital Marketing course and instructing online workshops. And finally, since 2016, they have been working at Emerald, initially as a Director of Digital Operations and later as a Senior Director. In this role, they lead website redesign and enhancement projects for brands across multiple industries, applies agile methodologies to define product requirements, and conducts WordPress training for brand teams.
Semhal Tekeste attended George Mason University where they received a B.S. degree in Marketing. Semhal later pursued a graduate certificate in Digital Media from American University in 2012-2013. Additionally, they studied Web Technologies and Product Management at the Department of Product in 2019. Semhal also obtained an A.A degree in Business Administration from Northern Virginia Community College.
