Kari Cueva

Senior Manager, Veterinary Genetics at Embark Veterinary

Kari Cueva has worked in the veterinary field since 2003. In 2008, they were a Research Fellow at Cornell University, where they looked at the difference between pregnant and non-pregnant mares with regard to CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells using PBMC culture, flow cytometry, and q-PCR. Kari also assisted in managing the reproductive cycles of a herd of approximately 40 Thoroughbreds and ponies. In 2009, they were a Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where they performed and troubleshot protocols to extract and highly purify viral RNA and bacterial HU protein. From 2011 to 2016, they were an Associate Veterinarian at Santa Clarita Animal Hospital, where they performed duties in a busy AAHA accredited, small animal, 4-6 doctor practice. In 2016, they were an Emergency Veterinarian at Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center, where they were the overnight emergency doctor in a specialty/referral veterinary hospital. In 2017, they became the Owner of Cueva Veterinary Services, where they provided independent contracting services to general practice and emergency/specialty practices. Since 2019, they have been with Embark Veterinary as a Senior Manager, Veterinary Genetics, Senior Veterinary Geneticist, and Veterinary Geneticist. In these roles, they have formed and managed the first veterinary affairs team, launched veterinary products, created original CE and sales presentations, developed veterinary products, mined literature for new genetic variants, created probes for microarray spike in, released thirty new health tests on a microarray, performed microarray quality control, and created consumer content for health conditions.

Kari Cueva received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of California, Davis in 2011. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Animal Sciences from the same university in 2007. In June 2011, they received a Veterinarian certification from the California Veterinary Medical Association.
