Matthew Cozad, PhD

Matthew Cozad, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Matthew is currently working as a Manufacturing Manager at Elucent Medical, Inc. In this role, they are responsible for developing manufacturing processes for a new surgical navigation technology for breast tumor removal, managing product development iterations for current and new offerings, and efficiently leading sourcing projects.

Prior to their current role, Matthew worked at DJO Global where they served as a Product Development Manager. Matthew designed products with a total portfolio value of over $30 million per year, led multi-disciplinary teams from product inception to launch, and managed a remote team of engineers and prototypers. Matthew also generated significant cost savings through design-to-value projects.

Before DJO Global, Matthew was a Design Engineer at Exos Corporation, where they developed thermoformable braces and splints, resulting in the company's acquisition by DJO Global. Matthew conducted research regarding materials, product design, and new applications and identified relevant technologies for implementation in current and future product lines.

Matthew's early career includes roles such as a Consultant at EternoGen, LLC, where they developed an injectable dermal filler, conducted cell assays, and performed preliminary animal studies. Matthew also worked as a Life Science Predoctoral Fellow at the Biosensors & Biomaterials Lab, where they designed a magnetically-stimulated scaffold and magnetic stimulation apparatus, established lab protocols, and published multiple peer-reviewed articles.

Additionally, Matthew gained experience as a Product Development Intern at Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, where they developed polymeric orthopaedic devices and contributed to the procurement of a DARPA DoD fracture putty contract. Matthew also worked as an Honors Undergraduate Researcher at the Biosensors & Biomaterials Lab, synthesizing tissue scaffolds containing nanomaterials and conducting testing on hernia mesh explants.

Matthew started their career as an Undergraduate Researcher at the Lamprey Neurobiology Lab, where they conducted calcium imaging experiments, performed survival surgeries on larval lamprey, and prototyped a sample holder for a vortexer.

Matthew Cozad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, which they completed in 2008. Matthew subsequently pursued their higher education at the same institution and obtained a PhD in Biological Engineering in 2012.
