Emily W. has a diverse work experience in the marine engineering field. Emily started their career as a Student Intern at Maritrans' Naval Architecture Department in 2004, followed by a Student Intern role at Cummins Inc, High Horsepower Marine Diesel Department in 2005. Emily then worked as a 3rd Assistant Engineer at Fairfield Maxwell in 2006, SubCom in 2007, and Interocean American Shipping in 2007-2008.
From 2008 to 2010, Emily worked as a Marine/Mechanical Engineer II at Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. Emily then joined Murray & Associates, Naval Architects | Marine Engineers in 2012 as a Naval Architect/Marine Engineer, providing engineering support for newbuild and refit projects for yachts and commercial vessels.
In 2016, Emily became a Senior Marine Engineer and Technical Lead at BMT, where they led the marine engineering team for various projects including the Industry Studies of the T-ARC(X) replacement cable ship design for NAVSEA and the newbuild design of an icebreaker/buoy tender for the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Emily continued their Marine Engineer role at Serco from 2022 to 2023 before joining Elliott Bay Design Group in 2023, where they currently work as a Marine Engineer.
Emily W. obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute, where they studied from 2001 to 2005. In addition, they have obtained the certification of Professional Engineer from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation in May 2014. Emily also holds the certification of 2nd Assistant Engineer, Motor Vessels of Any Horsepower (Held in Continuity) from the U.S. Coast Guard, which they obtained in October 2008.
