Drew McGuire, PE, is an accomplished director with extensive experience in transmission and substations research and development. Currently serving as the Director of Transmission & Substations R&D at EPRI since September 2016, McGuire focuses on the identification, creation, and transfer of innovative technologies to member utilities, particularly in areas such as UAVs, sensor systems, and robotics. Prior to EPRI, McGuire worked at Southern Company from April 2005 to September 2016 as a T&D Research Engineer, managing new technology development related to Smart Grid technologies, energy storage, and advanced tooling. McGuire's academic background includes a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, along with previous teaching experience as an adjunct instructor in electrical engineering subjects.
