Jose Vilson is an accomplished educational leader, co-founder and executive director of EduColor since July 2014, focusing on community organizing, activism, and online advocacy for cultural proficiency. Currently a doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University, Jose studies Sociology and Education with an emphasis on equity and diversity in K-12 education. In addition, Jose serves on the boards of directors for PowerMyLearning and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, offering strategic advice and elevating the work of these organizations. As a senior advisor at New Markets Venture Partners, Jose supports investments in innovative edtech ventures. Jose also writes for Edutopia, operates JLV Works LLC, and previously held roles as a math teacher, coach, and data specialist within the NYC Department of Education. Academic qualifications include a PhD in progress from Teachers College and prior degrees in Mathematics Education and Computer Science.
