Haiyan Hua has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Starting in 1991, Haiyan worked as an International Education Specialist at Harvard Graduate School of Education until 2000. Following this, they joined World Education, Inc. in 2008 and served as a Senior Education Advisor until 2015 when they were promoted to the role of Vice President. Additionally, Haiyan also held the position of Senior Researcher and Lecturer at Harvard Graduate School of Education from 1994 to 2018.
Haiyan Hua pursued their education in a chronological order. From 1977 to 1982, they attended Central China Normal University and earned a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature/Letters. Following this, they enrolled at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where they obtained a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in International Education Policy and Research from 1986 to 1987. Haiyan continued their studies at the same institution and completed their Doctorate in International Education Policy and Research from 1988 to 1995.
