Anthony Garza

Assistant Superintendent for Support Services at Edinburg CISD

Dr. Anthony Garza is a 1991 honor graduate from Edinburg High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. In 2001, he received his Master’s degree in Educational Administration and in 2012, earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, both from the University of Texas Pan American. Dr. Garza’s dissertation was entitled, “Selected Factors Related to the Mathematics Academic Achievement of Eighth Grade English Language Learners”. He holds Texas Educator Certificates in Secondary Mathematics (6-12), Principal (EC-12), and Superintendent (EC-12).

Dr. Garza has 27 years of experience in the field of education. His expertise began as a high school math teacher, serving for a total of eight years. Dr. Garza has 19 years of experience at the administration level, all at ECISD. His four years as Assistant Principal were at South Middle School and Edinburg North High School. Soon after, Dr. Garza led as the Principal at South Middle School from 2007-2012 and Johnny Economedes High School from 2012-2017. His role as Principal was recognized at both secondary levels of school. In 2011-2012 he was awarded the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region I Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year and in 2015-2016, TASSP Region I Outstanding High School Principal of the Year.

Dr. Garza served as the ECISD Area Director for High Schools and as COVID-19 Director from 2017 through 2021. Concurrently, he worked as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He taught classes in the College of Education and P-16 Integration for students enrolled in the Master’s program who aspire to become school administrators. Dr. Anthony Garza is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services at ECISD.
