Joseph Pye has a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. Joseph has served as a Chief Medical Officer, Community Hospitals & Population Health and an Associate Chief Quality Officer at ECU Health since 2023. Prior to that, they were a Family Medicine Physician at ECU Health, where they worked in a variety of settings including a residency program, a 4-physician practice, and a 7-provider practice. Joseph has also held positions as a Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs and Population Health, Associate Chief Medical Officer, and Vice President of Medical Affairs for the Region at ECU Health. Additionally, they have worked as a Medical Director of Health Informatics, a Medical Director of Employee Clinic, a Clinical Informatics Physician, and an Associate Medical Director at ECU Health. Joseph has also been involved in various leadership roles outside of their primary job, including serving as a Committee Chair and a Member of the Board of Directors at ECU Health Alliance CIN and Coastal Plains Network, LLC. Furthermore, they have been a Member of the Board of Directors at the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. During their residency, Joseph was a Family Medicine Resident Physician at Cone Health, where they also held responsibilities as an EMR Physician Champion and played a role in upgrading the Resident Portal and developing an online presence for the program.
Joseph Pye has a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in Family Medicine from the Cone Health Family Medicine Residency Program, completed from 2006 to 2009. Prior to that, they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in Medicine from Saint George's University School of Medicine, completed from 2001 to 2005. Joseph also pursued Japanese Studies at Keio University from 1993 to 1994 and earned a BA degree in Economics and International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between 1989 and 1994. In terms of additional certifications, Joseph Pye obtained Clinical Informatics certification from the American Board of Preventive Medicine in January 2016, and Family Medicine certification from the American Board of Family Medicine in December 2009.
