Mark Barbisan has a diverse work experience in the software engineering field. Mark is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at ecobee since March 2023. Before that, they worked at 1Password as an Engineering Manager from January 2022 to March 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Index Exchange as an Engineering Manager from November 2019 to December 2021 and as a Senior Engineering Lead from September 2018 to November 2019. Mark also worked at Carbonite as a Principal Software Engineer from February 2018 to September 2018 and as a Senior Software Engineer from February 2016 to February 2018. Mark played a crucial role in launching Carbonite's first EVault-based product and designing and implementing software for automating deployment and maintenance of EVault backup components. Before Carbonite, Mark worked at Seagate Technology as a Senior Software Engineer from September 2012 to February 2016. Mark designed and released a new backup and restore product for Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines and improved network throughput and developer productivity. Prior to Seagate, Mark worked at Academica Group Inc as a Manager of Product & Web Development from September 2010 to September 2012. Mark led a team of remote developers, responded to sales proposals, and built a new survey platform. Before that, Mark worked at scanR Inc. as a Software Developer from February 2007 to December 2008. Mark integrated the product with a billing system and acted as a technical liaison for a Japanese development team. Mark started their career at Microsoft Corporation as a Software Design Engineer (I / II) from July 2004 to October 2006. Mark designed and developed the desktop search engine for Windows Vista and Office 2007, integrated it with NTFS notifications for up-to-date search results, and implemented security measures.
Mark Barbisan attended the University of Waterloo from 1999 to 2004, where they earned an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree. Their field of study was Computer Science with Software Engineering Option, and they pursued this degree with a Co-op program. Following this, from 2007 to 2010, Mark attended the University of Toronto and obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. Their field of study during this time was Political Science.
