Ian D. Henry ’01 graduated with a degree in chemistry from Earlham, where he played offensive line for the Quakers football team. He started his career as an analytical researcher with Alkermes in Cambridge, Massachusetts, working in the advanced inhalation delivery research division. He left Alkermes to earn a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Purdue University, focusing on bioanalytical nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy under the direction of Dr. M. Daniel Raftery, graduating in 2008. After completing his graduate degree, Ian joined Research & Development at the Procter & Gamble Co., developing consumer products in the Beauty sector across brands such as Pantene, Olay, Head & Shoulders and Safeguard. While in Beauty, Ian was an original member of the Centric Team that developed Pantene Gold Series, P&G’s first complete hair care line-up intentionally designed for consumers of African ancestry. Currently, Ian is R&D director, Baby, Feminine and Family Care Analytical, with responsibility for Feminine Care and Analytical Legal Sciences at P&G. In addition to his commitment to Earlham, Ian’s additional external involvement includes membership on the National Academies Roundtable for Black Men and Black Women in Science, Engineering and Medicine, vice-president of the Cincinnati Chapter of the National Organization for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers and, since 2010, Big Brothers Big Sisters. He and his wife, Kirstin Eismin-Henry, along with their children, Inez and Kyan, reside in Cincinnati, OH. Ian is a member of White Rose Monthly Meeting (OVYM) and joined the Earlham Board of Trustees in 2012.
