Thomas Strat, PhD has worked in a variety of roles since 1977. Thomas began their career as a Major in the US Army in 1977. In 1983, they joined SRI International as a Senior Computer Scientist. In 1995, they joined the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as a Program Manager and Assistant Office Director, where they led a nationwide program of basic research in image understanding techniques and initiated a new program on Airborne Video Surveillance for unmanned aircraft. In 1999, they co-founded ObjectVideo, Inc., where they led a product development team of 27 engineers and video scientists to become a leading supplier of intelligent video surveillance systems. In 2006, they joined SET Corp (which was later acquired by SAIC/LEIDOS) as Senior Vice President, where they led the division in the development of advanced image and video understanding technologies. In 2013, they joined Orienteering USA as a Member of the Board of Directors-Vice President of Competition. In 2012, they became a self-employed Senior Technology Advisor, consulting and serving on panels and boards for the application of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and video understanding to defense, intelligence, and commercial enterprises. In 2018, they became President and CEO of DZYNE Technologies, which creates innovative, intelligent, autonomous aircraft.
Thomas Strat earned their PhD in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from Stanford University in 1990. Prior to that, they earned a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1973 and 1979.
