André Kenji Horie started their work experience in 2006 as a Software Engineer Intern at Open Communications Security. André Kenji then worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Portugal Telecom Inovação in 2007. In the same year, they also worked as a Business Intelligence Consultant Intern at IBM. From 2013 to 2014, André worked as an NLP Consultant at The University of Tokyo. In 2014, they joined Duolingo as a Software Engineer and later took on roles such as Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead, Staff Software Engineer, and Senior Engineering Manager. Currently, André serves as the Director of Engineering at Duolingo, a position they have held since September 2021.
André Kenji Horie began their education in 2004 at the University of São Paulo, Polytechnic School, where they pursued a degree in Computer Engineering. André Kenji completed this program in 2008. Following this, they attended The University of Tokyo from 2009 to 2011, earning a Master's degree in Natural Language Processing. André Kenji continued their education at The University of Tokyo and obtained a PhD in Natural Language Processing from 2011 to 2014.
