Angela Quintanilla Capawana is a dedicated undergraduate student at Duke University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Global Health. Currently serving as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Duke Center for Biomolecular and Tissue Engineering, Angela is developing an injectable granular hydrogel biomaterial aimed at stimulating neuron development post-ischemic stroke. Additionally, Angela acts as a Carolinas Coach for the Office of Undergraduate Education, promoting equity in higher education for students from under-resourced backgrounds. In leadership roles with the Asian Student Association, Angela has organized events to foster community engagement and support for refugee families, while also being actively involved in student recruitment for Duke LIFE. Previous experience includes working at the Duke University Medical Center, assisting with gene therapy research, and serving as a Youth Ambassador for North Carolina Asian Americans Together, focusing on educational advocacy for the Asian American Pacific Islander community.
