Sam Macbeth has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Sam'smost recent position is as a Senior Privacy Engineer at DuckDuckGo, where they started in January 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Cliqz GmbH from 2015 to 2020, first as a Software Developer from July 2015 to January 2020, and then as a Tech Lead from January 2019 to December 2020. In 2015, they were employed as a Technical Consultant at University College London on a short contract to implement a tool for the analysis of AIS shipping data. Additionally, they have a background in academia, completing a PhD at Imperial College London from October 2010 to January 2015. During their PhD, they conducted research on self-governing knowledge commons and developed open-source software for academia. Sam also worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London from April 2014 to July 2014, where they focused on software control and optimization algorithms.
