Bryon Adinoff has had a diverse work experience in the field of drug policy reform and addiction research. Bryon currently holds the position of President at Doctors for Drug Policy Reform (D4DPR) since November 2023, and previously served as President and Executive Vice President. Additionally, they are a Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus since 2018. Prior to these roles, Adinoff was a Distinguished Professor in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the Medical Director of Substance Abuse Team at VA North Texas Health Care System. Bryon has also worked as an Editor in Chief at Taylor & Francis Group and as an Assistant/Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.

- From 1983 to 1986, they attended the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, but did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study.
- Bryon then pursued a Psychiatry Residency Program at Tulane University from 1979 to 1983.
- Prior to that, from 1975 to 1979, they attended the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, earning their M.D. degree.
- Their undergraduate studies took place at the University of Michigan from 1971 to 1974, where they obtained a B.G.S. degree without specifying a field of study.
