Fred Carter has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Fred started their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at Lehigh University in 2014, where they developed and built a large format 3D Metal printer. Fred also gained experience in mechanical and material testing, numerical simulation, and additive toolpath programming. Fred then joined the Hydro Research Foundation in 2015 as a Graduate Research Fellow, working on the design and optimization of an aerating hydrokinetic turbine runner. Fred built and tested the runner in the circulating water channel at the NSWCC. In 2016, they joined Sciaky, Inc. as a Process Engineer before transitioning to DMG MORI USA in 2017. At DMG MORI, they have held the positions of Lead Engineer at DMG MORI Advanced Solutions and is currently serving as the Head of Research and Development.
Fred Carter earned their Bachelor's degree from Lehigh University in 2012. Fred went on to obtain a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Technical Entrepreneurship from Lehigh University in 2014. In 2016, they completed their Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University. Since 2019, Fred has been pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University, which they are expected to complete in 2024. In 2009, they briefly attended The University of Bonn, but no degree or field of study is specified for that period.
