Steve has over 20 years experience in the development and subsequent application of functional anti-corrosion coatings and mutli-layer insulation systems used to protect metal structures such as rebar, valves and pipelines and to provide thermal insulation. Whilst working for DuPont Powder Coatings in Houston he led the development of Nap-Rock, the first flexible abrasion resistant dual powder FBE system and also developed some novel, patented chemistry for FBEs that led to a novel range of Low Application Temperature FBE coatings. In his role as Vice President of Corporate Research and Development at ShawCor he spent seven years leading project teams which developed several novel Anti-Corrosion and Insulation Coatings for steel pipelines including the Ultra deep-water insulation system and SureBond, a two layer Anti-Corrosion Coating designed for use on pipelines in aggressive environments. He also led the team that designed, commissioned and then operated the ShawCor SSV a unique test facility for insulated Sub-Sea pipes which won a Spotlight on Technology award at OTC. As an independent consultant at Deep Bay Consulting Ltd, he has been involved with several successful initiatives including the development of some high temperature Fluoropolymer coating systems for Solvay Performance Polymers.
