Carla Diana has been working in the design field since 2000. Carla is currently the 4D Designer-in-Residence & Head of Program at Cranbrook Academy of Art, a position they have held since 2018. Prior to this, they were the Design Lead at Diligent Robotics in 2017 and the Creative Director at Carla Diana Design from 2000-2012. From 2012-2017, they were the Smart Fellow at Smart Design, where they created content based on future thinking in the areas of smart objects and the internet of things. Carla was also the Assistant Professor of Product and Industrial Design at Parsons School of Design - The New School from 2017-2018, the Lecturer (focus on Product Interaction and Smart Objects) at the University of Pennsylvania from 2013-2017, the Associate Director, Interaction Design at Smart Design from 2008-2012, an Adjunct Professor at the School of Visual Arts from 2009-2017, and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Industrial Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2007-2008. Carla was also a Professor of Interactive Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design from 2002-2007.
Carla Diana received their MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2000, where they studied 3D Design with additional research in 2D design. Carla was a MFA candidate at Pratt Institute in 1996, studying Industrial Design. Carla received their ME from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1989, studying Mechanical Engineering. Carla also attended Marymount School of NY.
