Malte Köhler has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and companies. Starting in 2010, they worked as a working student at Fraunhofer-Center für Silizium-Photovoltaik CSP. In 2013, they became a research assistant at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. From 2016 to 2020, they joined Forschungszentrum Jülich as a PhD student, specializing in the development of transparent, passivating contacts for high-efficiency silicon solar cells. During their time there, they also served as a tour guide, presenting the research center's topics to various visitor groups. In 2020, Malte worked as a technology consultant. Currently, they are employed at digid GmbH, where they have held multiple roles since 2021. These roles include Senior Technology Transfer Engineer, Head of Nanotechnology, Acting Head of Production, and most recently, Head of Technologies.

Malte Köhler has a strong educational background in the field of engineering and technology. Starting in 2010, they attended Hochschule Anhalt where they earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Photovoltaik. This program was a dual study program, indicating that they likely gained practical experience alongside their academic studies. After completing their bachelor's degree in 2013, Malte Köhler continued their education at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. There, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Engineering Physics, which they successfully obtained in 2016.

During their time at Carl von Ossietzky University, Malte Köhler participated in an exchange program and spent a semester at California State University, Long Beach in 2015. Malte focused on Computer Method Engineering with a specialization in MATLAB during this period.

Following their master's degree, Malte Köhler further advanced their academic achievements by pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, with a specialization in Photovoltaics, at RWTH Aachen University. Malte embarked on this doctoral program in 2016 and completed it in 2020. Malte'sstudies and research in this field demonstrate a deep interest and expertise in renewable energy generation.

In addition to their formal education, Malte Köhler has obtained several professional certifications. In 2022, they earned the certifications of Professional Scrum Master I and Professional Scrum Product Owner I from Scrum.org. Malte also acquired the GMP Grundlagenkurs certification from GMP Academy in the same year. Later, in 2023, they obtained the Certified Supply Chain Manager certification from Haufe Akademie. These certifications attest to their commitment to continuous learning and professional development beyond their academic qualifications.
