Shannon Smith has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Shannon started their career as a Camp Counselor and Lifeguard at Mar-Lu-Ridge Summer Camp before working as a Nanny/Babysitter for an independent family. Shannon then gained administrative experience as an Administrative Assistant at Smith Financial Services, where they proofread correspondence, processed tax returns, and input financial data.
In their role as a Server at Outback Steakhouse International, Shannon provided customer service in a fast-paced environment. Shannon then transitioned to a role as a Metadata Librarian at Oklahoma State University, where they created metadata for a special library collection.
Shannon's international experience began with their service as a Community Economic Development Volunteer with the Peace Corps. During this time, they worked with artisan professional organizations and taught basic accounting and business management to entrepreneurs in a rural community.

Shannon Smith's education history begins in 2006 when they attended the College of Charleston. They studied History, African Studies, and French and obtained a Bachelor of the Arts degree in 2010. Following this, Shannon pursued higher education and attended Oklahoma State University from 2011 to 2015. During this period, they focused on International/Global Studies and earned a Master of Science degree. Lastly, Shannon attended the University of Maryland from 2018 to 2020 and obtained a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics.
