Leon Fester has worked in the IT industry since 2004. Leon began their career at Dynamic Visual Technologies as Infrastructure and Support Manager. In 2007, they moved to JPMorgan Chase & Co. where they held the roles of Configuration and Release Manager and Windows Integration Specialist. In 2009, they joined Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as Senior Systems Engineer. From 2012 to 2013, they worked at Mastercard in the roles of Team Lead: Infrastructure Services and Senior Systems Engineer. From 2013 to 2017, they worked at The Shoprite Group of Companies in various roles, including IT Project Change Manager - Shoprite Holdings, Head Of Information Technology - Hungry Lion Division, Solutions Architect - Medirite Division, and Technical Lead - Medirite Division. In 2020, they joined Dimension Data Middle East and Africa as Senior Technical Architect and OptiNet a division of Dimension Data as Solutions Architect. Leon is currently employed at IBM as a Customer Success Manager and is also a DevOps Institute Ambassador at DevOps Institute, a role they have held since 2021.

Leon Fester has an extensive educational background. Leon obtained their Matric from Harold Cressy High School in 1991. Leon then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of the Western Cape in 1992. In 1993, they obtained a National Diploma in Information Technology from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In 2010, they earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems from the University of the Western Cape and obtained an ITIL Foundations V3 certification from Pink Elephant. In 2018, they completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Future Studies from Stellenbosch Business School. Additionally, Leon Fester has obtained numerous certifications from IBM, DevOps Institute, LinkedIn, Amazon Web Services, and Pink Elephant.
