James G. Hill is an experienced journalist with a career spanning over three decades, currently serving as Executive Editor at the Detroit Free Press since February 2000. In this role, James drives news and political coverage for Michigan's largest media organization, utilizing innovative approaches and audience engagement strategies across various platforms. James has led diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and has successfully overseen the development of new online products, enhancing subscriber growth. Previous positions at Detroit Free Press included Senior News Director, Director of Politics and Public Accountability, and Metro Editor, among others. Prior to joining the Free Press, James worked at the Chicago Tribune, Newsweek, The New York Times, and The Detroit News, with a foundation in journalism and Black Studies from Wayne State University.
