Kia knew she wanted to be a lawyer since she was a child. She often watched legal shows and dreamed about being in the courtroom fighting for justice. Then, in college, she had the opportunity to intern at a civil rights law firm, which sealed the deal.
Kia began her legal career working in criminal law. She worked as a public defender, representing those who needed help defending themselves after an arrest. After nearly a decade of practicing criminal defense, she decided to take her passion of helping people in need into the area of civil law.
Kia joined the Derek Smith Law Group because she wanted to help people defend their rights in the workplace. She feels that a person’s civil rights are the most important rights worth fighting for. Her extensive experience as a criminal defense attorney gives her an expertise in both client communication and trial law. She can use these skills to help her clients get the justice and compensation they deserve.
