Donovan Tindill

Director, OT Cybersecurity at DeNexus

Donovan Tindill has a wealth of experience in the field of OT cybersecurity. Donovan currently holds the position of Director, OT Cybersecurity at DeNexus, where they utilize their expertise in multiple verticals, control systems, cybersecurity, and industry standards to enhance cybersecurity data collection and improve risk quantification and visualization. In this role, they collaborate with various teams such as Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Development.

Prior to their current role, Donovan gained extensive experience as a Senior Cybersecurity Strategist and Product Manager at Honeywell, where they provided subject matter expertise in ICS/OT cybersecurity and led strategic planning and transformational programs within the division. Donovan also served as a Principal Security Consultant and Senior Security Consultant, specializing in industrial control systems cybersecurity.

Donovan has contributed to the advancement of ICS/OT cybersecurity through various roles. Donovan served as a public speaker and industry contributor, sharing their experiences and knowledge at conferences to promote debate and out-of-the-box thinking. Donovan also held the position of Industry Advisor in the ICS Security Symposium Advisory Committee at Public Safety Canada, where they provided strategic advice on planning ICS security-related events.

Furthermore, Donovan has been actively involved in the Industrial Control Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG) hosted by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Donovan served as a Vice-Chair and Industry Advisor in the ICSJWG Steering Team to facilitate information sharing and collaboration between federal agencies, private asset owners/operators, and critical infrastructure sectors.

Donovan's dedication to promoting ICS/OT cybersecurity is evident in their involvement with the International Society of Automation (ISA). Donovan has served as a Certified Trainer for the ISA course on using the ANSI/ISA-62443 standards to secure industrial control systems. Donovan was also the Co-Chair and Editor of Working Group 6 on ICS Patch Management, where they shared their field experience in developing ICS patch management programs.

Overall, Donovan Tindill's work experience reflects their deep knowledge and expertise in the field of OT cybersecurity, as well as their commitment to advancing the industry through public speaking, advisory roles, and active participation in industry organizations.

Donovan Tindill started their education in 1997 at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) where they pursued a degree in Network Engineering Technology. Donovan completed this degree in 1999. Later, in 2002, Donovan enrolled in NAIT again, this time to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Information System Technology - Network Management (BAIST-NM), which they completed in 2003.

In addition to their formal education, Donovan also obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2006, they became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) through ISC2 (International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium). In 2007, they completed the SANS401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style training provided by SANS.

Continuing their professional development, Donovan obtained the DHS CSSP Control Systems Cyber Security 5-day Advanced Training (301) in 2010, hosted by Idaho National Labs (INL) at the Control Systems Analysis Center in Idaho Falls, ID. In the same year, they also completed the course "Evaluating Your Organization's Readiness for NERC Compliance Audit," delivered by Baker Tilly International and sponsored by Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC).

Donovan expanded their expertise in cybersecurity by obtaining the ISA99/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fundamentals Specialist certification from ISA in 2015. Donovan also received the Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Version 5 certification, provided by Network Security Technologies and sponsored by Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in the same year.

In 2016, Donovan obtained the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification from SANS Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC). Finally, in 2020, they obtained the Pragmatic Marketing Certification Level IV (PMC-IV) for Focus, Market, Launch, and Price from Pragmatic Institute.
