Brian Lucena has extensive experience in the field of data science and machine learning. Brian started their career as a Postdoc/Lecturer at UC Berkeley in 2004, followed by an Assistant Professor role at American University in Cairo from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, they joined Guardian Analytics as their Chief Mathematician, where they led the development of next-generation fraud detection algorithms based on Bayesian behavioral modeling. From 2013 to 2016, they served as the Senior VP of Analytics at PCCI, leading a team of Data Scientists in developing real-time predictive models for clinical decision support. Brian Lucena also served as a Data Science Bootcamp Instructor at Metis from 2016 to 2018, where they developed and revised courses and curricula. Brian then worked as a Principal Data Scientist at Clover Health from January to September 2018 before joining Agentero as a Consulting Data Scientist in October 2018 and DemoIQ in June 2021. Currently, they work as the Principal of Numeristical, a company dedicated to advancing the frontiers of data science, machine learning, and statistics through education, software, research, and consulting.
Brian Lucena received their undergraduate degree, an A.B. in Applied Mathematics with a focus on Probability and Statistics, from Harvard University in 1996. Subsequently, they pursued graduate studies in Applied Mathematics and earned a Ph.D. from Brown University in 2002.
