Derek Hiland has extensive experience in government and planning, currently serving as Interim County Administrator and previously holding positions such as Deputy County Administrator and Director of Community Development for DeKalb County Government since November 2016. Additionally, Derek serves as Director for the Regional Planning Commission of DeKalb County. Prior to these roles, experience includes Principal Planner/Long Range Planner at the City of DeKalb, Associate Planner at DeKalb County Government, and Regional Planner at Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission. Educational background includes studies at Western Illinois University, participation in the DeKalb Leadership Academy, and coursework at Illinois Valley Community College and Marquette in Ottawa, Illinois.
