Craig Bell is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in language training, crisis communications, and military operations regarding nuclear threat reduction and nonproliferation. Currently serving as the Chief of the Language Training Branch at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency since February 2009, Craig is responsible for the recruitment and retention of Russian military linguists in support of agency missions. Previous roles include overseeing the Defense Threat Reduction Office in Kazakhstan, managing the Russian Language Training Program, and serving as Chief/Sr. Presidential Translator for the Washington-Moscow Direct Communications Link. Craig's military career includes commanding a tank company during Operation Desert Storm and coordinating peacekeeping exercises across former Soviet states. Education includes advanced studies in Russian at the George C. Marshall Center and a Master’s degree in Russian Area Studies from Indiana University Bloomington.
