Maxwell Zhou has had a diverse career in technology. Maxwell began their professional career in 2009 as a Research Assistant in Particle Physics at Tsinghua University, where they developed a 180° Muon detection system and designed surface magneto-optic Kerr-effect equipment, for which they won the third prize in the Challenge Cup. In 2013, they became a Team Leader in an Autonomous Agriculture Robot Project at Texas Instruments. In 2015, they were the Leader of an Autonomous Power Line Inspection Robot at DJI, which won first place in the DJI Developer World Challenge. In 2016, they joined Baidu USA as a Software Architect, where they invented a brand new unsupervised online calibration algorithm to calibrate intrinsic and extrinsic parameters between multiple Lidars, GPS, Cameras and Radars. In 2017, they became a Cofounder and Chief Scientist at Roadstar.ai, where they led the early sensor fusion technology in all L4 autonomous driving companies and raised a $10M seed fund and closed a $128M Series A fund. In 2019, they became the Chief Executive Officer of DeepRoute.ai, an international self-driving technology company committed to advancing urban logistics and popularizing robotaxis, and the first autonomous driving company in China with an internet giant as lead investor.
Maxwell Zhou earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from The University of Texas at Dallas from 2011 to 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Academic Talent Program (Mathematics and Physics) from Tsinghua University between 2005 and 2009.
