Brian Jarvis

Director, Site Reliability Engineering at Deem

Brian Jarvis has extensive work experience in the field of systems administration and engineering. Brian started their career as a UNIX Administrator for Berner Information, Inc. from 1987 to 1990. Brian then joined the University of Toronto as a Manager of Physics Computing Services from 1990 to 1996, where they were responsible for maintaining a heterogeneous UNIX environment.

From 1997 to 1999, Brian worked as a UNIX Systems Administrator for National Electronics Warranty. Brian then moved on to Ajilon Consulting as a UNIX Systems Administrator contractor from 1997 to 2003.

In 1999, Brian joined Fannie Mae as a UNIX Systems Administrator, where they managed UNIX programming, maintenance, performance tuning, and project management. Brian implemented Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and CoBIT controls in a multi-location computing environment.

Since 2008, Brian has been working at Deem, Inc. in various roles. Brian started as a Principal Systems Engineer and was responsible for managing and maintaining production facilities, Linux and Solaris servers, storage arrays, and network switches. Brian also led the migration to Xen-based virtualization and assisted in major system transitions due to corporate acquisitions. In their most recent role as Director of Site Reliability Engineering, they oversaw the site reliability engineering department and was involved in interview, mentoring and hiring new team members.

Brian Jarvis holds a Master's degree in Information Technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Additionally, they obtained the certification of AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate Level from Amazon Web Services in March 2015.
