Niels Mathijssen is a historian and journalist with extensive expertise in colonial history, historical representation, and journalism. Currently, Niels holds positions at the University of Groningen and the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, where biographical research on Poncke Princen is conducted. Niels is also an author with Das Mag Uitgevers, with a biography on Poncke Princen forthcoming. Additional experience includes journalism for De Groene Amsterdammer, focusing on colonialism and Dutch slavery, and previous roles at Trouw and De Correspondent. Niels has served as a Research Fellow at NIAS-KNAW and held various editorial and advisory roles in historical organizations. Niels holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Groningen and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Amsterdam.
