Daniel Melleby has an extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Currently, they are the Chief Information Security Officer at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP since November 2017. Prior to this, they served as the Director for Cybersecurity Policy at the National Security Council in The White House starting from September 2015.
In the past, Daniel worked at the US Department of Defense in multiple positions. Daniel was a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, assigned to the Pakistan-Afghanistan Rotation Cell from December 2010 to May 2012. Before that, they held the role of Country Director in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from October 2008 to December 2010. Daniel also worked as a Presidential Management Fellow, fulfilling roles such as Desk Officer at the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and Appropriation Analyst at the OSD Comptroller International and Contingency Team.
Daniel has also served as a U.S. Policy Advisor at the NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan from April 2011 to May 2012. In addition, they worked as a Graduate Program Assistant at the Elliott School of International Affairs from 2005 to 2006, and as a Senior Director at Westhill Partners from 2000 to 2004.
Early in their career, Daniel held the position of Public Affairs/Program Assistant at The Century Foundation from 1997 to 2000, where they supported policy research, media analysis, and public education campaigns. Additionally, they were responsible for an enterprise-wide IT infrastructure overhaul, including Y2K transition preparations.
Daniel Melleby holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Security Policy Studies from The George Washington University, which they obtained from 2004 to 2006. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Politics from New York University between 1993 and 1997. Daniel'ssecondary education was completed at Plainview Old-Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, where they received a Regents Diploma with Honors from 1989 to 1993.
In addition to their formal education, Daniel Melleby has obtained several certifications. In 2014, they became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from both (ISC)² and the institution (ISC)2. In 2013, they acquired the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification from EC-Council, and also received the Network+ ce certification from CompTIA in the same year.
