André Carvalho Bittencourt

Co-founder And Principal Data Scientist at Dataland

André Carvalho Bittencourt's work experience begins with their current role as Chief Data Scientist at DataLand, starting in August 2021. Prior to this, they worked as the Senior Manager of Machine Learning Engineering at Wildlife Studios from February to August 2021.

From February 2020 to February 2021, André held the position of VP of Data and ML Platform at Neoway. Prior to this, they served as the Director of Data Science from August 2018 to February 2020, and as a Lead Data Scientist from November 2017 to August 2018, also at Neoway.

Before joining Neoway, André worked at Linköpings Universitet, where they held various roles. These include Assistant Professor from December 2016 to October 2017, International Coordinator for Brazil from March 2015 to October 2017, Postdoc Researcher from October 2014 to November 2016, and PhD Student from June 2009 to December 2014. André'sPhD research focused on applied diagnostics of industrial robots, conducted in collaboration with ABB. Additionally, during their PhD, they spent one year teaching and completed coursework.

Andre's experience also includes a role as a Program Manager for the Swedish Brazilian R&I Aeronautical Cooperation INNOVAIR at Vinnova from November 2016 to October 2017. André worked as a Consultant at ABB for two months in 2012. André also worked as a Thesis Worker at KTH, The Royal Institute of Technology from September 2008 to February 2009, and as an Intern at the Research Lab in Refrigeration and Thermophysics (POLO) from January 2008 to July 2008. Furthermore, they worked as a Thesis Worker at ABB from June 2007 to December 2007.

In 2006, André was a co-founder and developer at Cruzeiro do Sul Development, where they contributed to the design and implementation of a RH and T controller for greenhouses, as well as the design of a hydroponics lab.

Overall, André Carvalho Bittencourt has gained extensive experience in data science, machine learning, research, teaching, and project management throughout their career.

André Carvalho Bittencourt completed their education in a sequential manner. André started their academic journey from 2003 to 2008 at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In 2006-2007, they attended Petroleum National Agency – PRH 34, focusing on Automation, Control, and Instrumentation for the oil and gas industries.

Later, in 2007, André Bittencourt had the opportunity to study as an exchange student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where they explored the field of Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Automatic Control. Continuing their academic pursuits, from 2009 to 2014, they attended Linköping University, working towards earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Automatic Control.

These academic experiences suggest that André Carvalho Bittencourt developed a strong foundation in engineering, with a particular interest in the areas of automation, control, and instrumentation. André'spursuit of advanced degrees also indicates a commitment to research and expertise in the field of Automatic Control.
